Youth Action Board for

Transitional-Age Youth

Experiencing Homelessness (YAB)

Program Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Youth Action Board (YAB) for Transitional Age Youth (TAY) Who Have Experienced or Are Experiencing Homelessness is to ensure diverse representation from Marin County’s population to:

  • Center the voices of the YAB participants within Marin's homelessness system.

  • Educate YAB participants about the County systems designed to serve them and build their skills to enable them to become leaders in the field.

  • Create a conduit between the YAB participants and those bodies (County or otherwise) designed to serve them, in order to empower YAB members.

  • Disrupt the system designed to serve the YAB participants by placing the power, control, and trust in the hands of the youth.

Program Tenets:

  1. Ubuntu - “I am because we are.” MCCT is here to support our YAB in any way needed. We will walk alongside them and provide them with the tools that they need to be successful in the program.

  2. Youth-led and action-oriented! This is an opportunity for YAB members to express their views on Marin's homelessness system, have a seat at the table in decision-making bodies in Marin County, build community, and TAKE ACTION!

  3. Connection. A primary goal of this program is to build community through connection and coalition building.

Program Components:

YAB participants are required to attend bi-monthly, in-person meetings with MCCT staff. These meetings include:

  1. Community building exercises

  2. Skill building workshops

  3. Personal/leadership development and

  4. Guest speakers.

YAB members will also participate in quarterly meetings with the County's homeless policy steering committee (and other Couty meetings as needed).

Generous stipends for YAB members’ participation are provided. Healthy catered meals, as well as translation, transportation, childcare, and/or other assistance to participate in the YAB meetings is also provided.
